Each year, the PTA holds one primary fundraising event to support all of its programs. The PTA provides for Willard students and their families in many ways:
• Community building events: Fall Fest; Hispanic Heritage Celebration; Giving Thanks Gathering; Kids Craft Fair; African American Heritage Celebration; Pizza and Bingo Night; Teacher Appreciation Week; End of Year Picnic; Field Day; Funds for ESCCA and COPE; Kids Fun Run
• Curriculum based programs: Artist in Residence; $125 Discretionary Fund for each teacher; Science Fair; Pioneer Days; School Garden; School Newspaper; Willard Bookstore; Cultural Arts; Field trips (PTA pays for buses for each grade to go to an historical Chicago museum); Science enrichment; School supplies at a reduced cost
- Student scholarships: For before and after school activities, sports teams and Camps)
- Special projects: In the past, the PTA has purchased chrome books, given classroom
library grants, updated nonfiction texts in the library; helped fund the screen and projector in the auditorium; purchased shades for the primary playground
Our fundraiser this year is Saturday, February 24, 2018. In addition to fun, food and music that evening, there will be a silent auction with many wonderful items to bid on. Additionally, every year, some of the most popular items to sign up for are what we call BUY-IN parties donated by Willard parents. For those who are not familiar with them, Buy-In parties are a fun way to support our school, spend time with friends and meet new parents. They are hosted by one or more parents or families (typically depending on the cost of throwing the party) and are activity or theme based.
